RIVERFALL GUESTHOUSE IS: A SINGLE FAMILY HOUSE. It is fully furnished. It sleeps 6 maximum total (4 adults maximum). It has three bedrooms: a 1st floor bedroom with two twins beds and two 2nd floor bedrooms each with a queen bed. It has a half bath on the first floor and two full baths on the second floor. A COMPLETELY "NEW" 160 YEAR OLD HOUSE. Recently renovated. New EVERYTHING, including a two zoned heating/cooling system. FAMILY AND FIDO FRIENDLY. We welcome families – including those with small children who are “rascals,” teenagers with “attitudes,” or pets that would be “traumatized” without you. Riverfall Guesthouse has an enclosed backyard for animals to roam (both children and pet versions) and has wood and tile floors throughout (children, pets, and carpet sometimes don’t mix). TOURISTS AND TRAINEES WELCOME. We invite tourists to be our Guests for a weekend or a week while they explore our great Heritage Area. We invite government trainees to consider our house to be their home away from home for a week or month while they attend one of the many excellent training centers in our region We invite Guests that need a place while they study or work at Shepherd University for a week or month or two. LOCATED IN THE HEART OF HISTORIC SHEPHERDSTOWN. Within a few blocks of many Good Places to Eat, Great Places to Shop, and Fun Things to Do. The house is within a single block of Shepherd University, the Blue Moon Cafe, the Yellow Brick Bank restaurant, the Shepherdstown Visitors Center, the Historic Shepherdstown Museum, and the Historic Entler Hotel, and within just 4 blocks of the rest of downtown Shepherdstown. VERY NEAR THE MIGHTY POTOMAC RIVER. Within 2 blocks of the Potomac River and a put-in for boats, canoes, kayaks, or one's favorite flotation device. Lock 38 at mile marker 72.8 on the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Canal National Historical Park and Towpath on the Maryland side of the Potomac is but a mere 2,000 feet away as the crow flies - but for two-legged creatures, it's about 1.2 miles away – a 5 minute drive, a 10 minute bike ride, or a 30 minute walk. DID YOU KNOW THAT: SHEPHERDSTOWN IS CENTRALLY LOCATED IN AN UNPARALLELED HERITAGE AREA. Great base of operations for enjoying the many historical, cultural, and recreational opportunities in the region: Jefferson County, Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, and the four state (WV, MD, VA, PA) national heritage area. There are also many training facilities in the area (including of course Shepherd University). OUR HOUSE USED TO BE HISTORIC MILL WORKERS’ QUARTERS. This two-story brick single family house was built ca. 1830-1850, and was originally constructed as a duplex to provide living quarters for workers at an adjacent mill. The "new" (ca. 1900-1910) section of the house at the rear is a one-story frame addition with a large eat-in kitchen, a nice sized bedroom, and a half bath. PLEASE NOTE THAT - If your party includes elderly people (or middle agers with very bad knees), Riverfall Guesthouse may NOT be right for you. The first floor has a bedroom with two twin beds and a half bath, but the full baths with tub/showers are on the second floor and the steps are steep. ****************************************************** PLEASE NOTE THAT - The parking situation in Shepherdstown is difficult because of the large number of students. Unfortunately, there is no free street parking in front of the house. There is a university lot across the street that can be used for free on weekends and evenings. During weekdays 8-5, metered parking is available (30 min for a quarter). We provide some change to help feed the meters. The police are aggressive in ticketing cars parked in residential zones without a permit ($40 fine) or in front of expired meters.
